Whether you’re hiring a professional videographer in the community or attempting to do an in-house production, understanding some very basic dos and don’ts can make a huge difference in the success of your final product.

Creating different moods with light. Lighting for interviews. Balancing forgrounds to backgrounds. Use of different gear like China balls, Chimeras and hard lights to create different effects and looks. Understanding the different color temperatures - Daylight to Tungsten and choices of lights.

The Community Media Center (CMC) Orientation is a prerequisite for all other training (field productions, video editing, studio production...)

Since we are all about free speech and community media, we want to hear your thoughts as well as provide you a place to meet and exchange ideas with other members.

We'd like to get together with all of you for lunch on Saturday, February 18, between the Orientation and the Field Certification.

This would be a modest potluck so bring a little treat to share.

Come by the CMC at noon to enjoy some refreshments and conversation. You'll have ample time to meet other members and talk about your projects.

This three-hour course teaches participants the proper use and handling of the basic field production equipment available for check out from AH, as well as familiarizing them with proper check-out policies and procedures.

The workshop will first describe and demonstrate fundamentals of digital audio that have direct relationship to audio quality, processing sequences, compression, and file size. Then we will use Audacity (free audio editing software) to perform basic editing that includes creating fades, volume envelopes, mixing sounds, cleaning out noise, normalizing sound, and outputting finished sound files for various delivery formats. Non-destructive editing vs destructive editing examples will be shown so students will hopefully be able to avoid the most common errors in audio editing.

Workshop with Adam Klugman, media strategist, campaign consultant and radio host of the Mad As Hell in America. This workshop will be geared for political candidates, campaign managers, non profits, citizen journalists and others committed to public advocacy utilizing the media resources of the 21st century.

The workshop will touch on differences and application of messaging, branding and advertising, how to frame the problem and then "selling" the solution.

Register now for Access Humboldt Studio Certification class. Once you've completed the training, certification will allow you to reserve studio space and produce content for the channels in our in-house Hi-Def production facility at the Community Media Center. Learn how to operate our high-definition studio and control room (switcher, mixer, lights, cameras, roles, and more).

The cost for the class is $40 per student, and the only pre-requisite is that you be a member in good standing that has completed Orientation.

Open to the public, free of charge. Learn about your local Access Media resources available at Access Humboldt, which include a recording studio, field equipment, editing stations, cable TV channels, online archive, and more.

Get the scope on Access Humboldt's history, mission, operation, procedures, and learn how YOU can get involve with local media productions, free speech advocacy and making this community health and informed.

The Community Media Center (CMC) Orientation is a prerequisite for all other training (field productions, video editing, studio production...)

Celebrate Humboldt County free-speech with us with another Potluck Mixer on Saturday, April 21, noon-2pm. Bring a friend with you to show off the facility and the work of your fellow members.

Access Humboldt was founded in April 2006 to manage local cable franchise benefits on behalf of the County of Humboldt, California and the Cities of Eureka, Arcata, Fortuna, Rio Dell, Ferndale and Blue Lake.

Access Humboldt's mission is "Local voices through community media."

This three-hour course teaches participants the proper use and handling of the basic field production equipment available for check out from AH, as well as familiarizing them with proper check-out policies and procedures.

This is an open, public meeting of the AH Board of Directors. The Public Comment session is at the top of the agenda. Speakers are limited to three minutes each. The meeting will be held in the Community Media Center, on the campus of Eureka High School. Please enter campus through the Faculty/Visitor/Accessible parking lot off of Del Norte Street, near J and follow the signs to the Community Media Center. The meeting agenda is posted below.
