Access Humboldt asks Governor Brown to sign SB 822 - California Net Neutrality Act

Strongest consumer protections in the nation were adopted by California Legislature and are now on Governor's desk. Today Access Humboldt transmitted a letter to Governor Brown requesting that he sign the California Net Neutrality Act of 2018. Here is the content of that letter:

State Senate and Governor are the final two steps to adopt strongest state law in the nation

California Net Neutrality Act - SB 822 passed key Assembly Committee vote

Today the California Net Neutrality Act - SB 822 (Weiner) passed a key review by the Assembly's Committee on Communications and Conveyance on a 9-3 vote. Today's action follows a move on Monday (August 20, 2018) that had North Coast Assemblymember Jim Wood sign on as a co-sponsor of the measure.  read more »

The Access Humboldt annual election process for the Board of Directors has begun. There will be two open elected positions; both are for three-year terms. State funds optic fiber for Siskiyou connection to Humboldt

California Public Utilities Commission released a decision adopted August 9, 2018 approving $3.6 million in state funding for Siskiyou Telephone Co. to build a new fiber optic link connecting Happy Camp to Somes Bar. The new link will support a connection for Internet services from Siskiyou County to Humboldt County via another project under development by the Karuk Tribe and Yurok Tribe that is bringing fiber connected service from Orleans/Panamnik across to Orick and down the coast.  read more »

Access Humboldt comments on broadband mapping

Access Humboldt joined national organizations in comments regarding broadband mapping filed today with the National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA) in the US Department of Commerce.

New America's Open Technology Institute led the effort which was also joined by Benton Foundation, Center for Rural Strategies, Institute for Local Self-Reliance, National Digital Inclusion Alliance, National Hispanic Media Coalition, Next Century Cities, Public Knowledge and X-Lab.

FCC shrinks and Humboldt County steps up for Open Internet

While the Federal Communications Commission abandons open internet policy, Humboldt County is stepping up to take local actions that protect net neutrality

In a letter to the North Coast's Congressional delegation (US Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris and US Representative Jared Huffman), Humboldt County Administrative Officer Amy Nilsen explained the need for open internet and called for actions to preserve net neutrality.
