Eureka, CA - Access Humboldt’s community media channels provide a free platform for political speech in the community.
While the broadcast TV rules for “equal time” and the “Fairness Doctrine” do not apply to community access channels, there is a clear standard: “Equal opportunity” is afforded for all views to be expressed. On the community channels of Access Humboldt, you will see programs presented by local residents, including programs that promote a candidate or a particular cause. read more »

The Schedule*
Day 1 of the Kinetic Grand Championship starts on the Plaza in Arcata, California at the noon whistle every Memorial Day weekend. The racers take off to the Manila dunes, where they race through miles of sand to the great and inevitable “Deadman’s Drop.” Then on to Eureka’s downtown gazebo.
Day 2 starts in Eureka at the waterfront on the Humboldt Bay, where brave Kinetic Pilots race their crafts through the water (most float). Then back on land where kinetic sculptures go up Hookton Hill, a 1 mile-7% incline and decline. Day 2 ends with a private campout for racers and volunteers only.
Day 3 starts from the mouth of the Eel River, through Morgan slough and onto dry land. Racers cross the finish line on Ferndale’s historic Mainstreet, where racers park and head up to the Final Awards Dinner at Ferndale’s Fireman’s Hall.0

New Fiber Delivers Broadband to Eureka!
A new optic fiber link developed by IP Networks and owned by PG&E, went live in Eureka on December 23, 2011.
Locally owned Internet Service Provider (ISP) 101 Netlink, based in Humboldt County, is a partner in the project, providing wireless Internet access for unserved communities along the fiber route - which follows PG&E power transmission lines near Highway 36, crossing Tehama, Trinity and Humboldt Counties. read more »

Access Humboldt applauds withdrawal of AT&T deal to acquire T-Mobile
Today AT&T formally announced that they are abandoning plans to acquire T-Mobile USA from Deutsche Telecom. The announcement follows a CA Public Utilities Commission investigation, a Department of Justice suit opposing the merger on anti-competitive grounds, and a damning Federal Communications Commission staff report calling for formal investigation of the deal. read more »
